Digital mail and zip codes among the most innovative new products

The Dominican Postal Institute (INPOSDOM) recently announced a new digital mail service that may soon replace the traditional hand-written letter. The new service will facilitate the sending of electronic documents to local or international destinations, even to those who do not own a computer.

The Postal Institute’s director, Dr. Carlos Modesto Guzman, explained that anyone can write an email in one of INPOSDOM’s 33 national offices, or even from their own home or business, and these emails will be printed, placed in an envelope and delivered to the final addressee.

The program was designed by the Presidential Office of Information Technology (OPTIC). The Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (INDOTEL) provided the computer science platform for its implementation.

The post office also has instituted a new zip code that will facilitate the efficient and rapid dispatching of mail, including packages and express mail. The new code clearly identifies the country’s 19 geographic regions and thus facilitates the process of mail delivery.

Businesses will be particularly pleased with the new services, which include “Corredom.” This specialized service rapidly and efficiently delivers letters door-to-door. Companies can send personalized mail and be assured that the mail has been received by the appropriate client. Guaranteed delivery is made in 24 to 72 hours.

“INPOSDON’s mission is to provide world class services to our customers,” explained Modesto. “We will continue to automate and expand our services in order to narrow the digital breach that sometimes prevents the government from delivering services to its citizens.”
