Cameroon, a nation of 18 million people, is politically stable and diplomatically dynamic, with valuable natural resources such as oil, natural gas, aluminum, and iron ore. Cameroon’s population of 18 million includes a young and well-trained work force alongside a thriving private business sector, whose leaders will be presented in The Washington Times and on this website in the coming weeks. First Lady Chantal Biya, a driving force behind African philanthropy, has founded orphanages and AIDS clinics, and is currently building the continent’s most medically advanced women’s hospital. Recently, Pope Benedict XVI made Cameroon his first visit to an African nation.
Working with Cameroon’s Minister of Communications, Jean Pierre Biyiti bi Essam, The Washington Times International Advocacy Department will produce a special series over the next twelve months. The Cameroon Series will focus on the central African country’s governance, diplomacy, investment, trade, culture, tourism, energy, transportation, and other issues.
